A TIMELESS TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN

A highly original book by Daniel Levy in which he converses in his imagination with Beethoven. Levy relives the full human experience of perennial wisdom and transforming passion, through the words that Beethoven left in his writings and letters and in quotes from conversations with him recalled by those who knew him.

This is Beethoven as we have never known him before.

In the preface, Daniel Levy writes:

“Thoughts scattered in letters, conversations and notes, each with its own story and addressee, have been patiently compiled here, so that whoever reads them will have direct knowledge – without critical, historiographical or technical interpretation – of his thoughts and feelings, straight from his mouth and writings.”

The author also writes:

“Now, 250 years after Beethoven’s birth, any celebration without unprecedented sincerity minimises his legacy. Today, nobody cares to hear hundreds of versions, repeated all over the world, of works that only make the performers famous, in a musical world that has lost its way and purpose, has abandoned the inner meanings of creativity, and convinces itself that it is “doing something for music”, in a world that is constantly re-proposing the same thing, with the sacred objective of a ‘box office’ that seals commercial success, that disdains the practice of the example given by the great musicians in relation to the deep essence of why the masterpieces were conceived and what they were conceived for.”

Daniel Levy has fully understood humanity’s extreme need to discover our own soul. His commemorative gesture to Beethoven goes beyond the realisation of new productions, and endeavours to illuminate the figure of the composer with a new approach. Everyone can feel that light shining through his music and his words.

There are figures in the history of humanity who clearly have the mission of guiding into the depths of the human being, of their values, feelings and inspiration. In a period of great change like the present one, the service of those who have illuminated the path, who are deserving of a timeless tribute, is essential. Beethoven has shown us how to sublimate life.

There was a need for a pianist of Levy’s sensitivity to bring his words back to light. He not only interprets the composer musically, but also relives the full human experience of perennial wisdom and transforming passion, through the words that Beethoven left in his writings and letters and in quotes from conversations with him recalled by those who knew him.

In his dialogues with Beethoven, Levy follows a common thread that vibrates and spreads the empathy that the Titan transmits.

In this way we find a hero of humanity that we should never forget if we are to come to know ourselves.
